Our Story

What we do, our vision, when we started & more.

We are independent, family owned and have been trading in Hereford in various establishments since 1989. The present day brings us to our time to cultivate but preserve the reputation and name of Saxtys, building on its history and beliefs. Saxty’s has been reborn with fresh innovations through the building.

At the turn of the century 33 Widemarsh Street was a toy shop and then a greengrocer before becoming Saxty’s, First opened by Peter Hill, Mike Roberts, and Peter Williamson in November 1977. Peters Hill’s middle name being Saxty. All three partners were prominent local Hereford businesspeople with links to Hereford United, CF Roberts electrical and Wyevale Nurseries. In November 2001 the Symonds family took over with its biggest refurbishment in 2007.

Saxty’s name has been synonymous with entertaining, quality drinks, great cuisine and awesome nightlife for almost half a century. A special place with history for any occasion.

Being local we support local, money we spend in Herefordshire is mainly spent back in the county. From our wine, cider and beer merchants through to our food suppliers we love independent and local. We are proud of our county and the history it has.

Our independence allows us to buy the best and freshest products giving high quality, at a reasonable cost. It allows us to be able to adapt for functions and events in a truly unique and stylish environment.

Our dining concept of hot rock cooking is not new, it was first developed 9000 years ago, the health conscious will enjoy as no oil is used and no additives. The meat can be cooked to your exact taste and kept piping hot for the duration of your meal. The taste and smell of sizzling steak is like no other way of enjoying your choice of cut.
Whilst dining with us, we ask for you to be clean, smart and appropriate for the restaurant environment.
Children are more than welcome into our establishment, when accompanied by an appropriate adult. We do however ask that once food service has ended, that all children vacate the premises.

Our chef Martin Carter can design a menu to your requirements, perfect for any occasion. From the rum bar in our terrace, the Heineken Library bar, the VIP Champagne bar and the main bar with a huge selection of wines, spirits and beers. Each area offers something different to the discerning customer. Our cocktails are made using fresh ingredients and quality spirits.

We have teamed up with The Secret Bottle shop next door, at 39 Widemarsh Street (www.secretbottleshop.co.uk) where you can choose from the vast catalogue of wines and champagnes, get it delivered to Saxty’s and we will serve to you for a small premium. This gives Saxty’s the biggest wine and champagne cellar in the county possibly the country.
